DIY: Removable Stitch Marker Gift
I have never been a big user of stitch markers, until recently when I have been working on larger projects that involve colorwork or more intricate stitch work. If I ever needed any I would simply make tiny yarn rings out of another color and use those. The difficulty with yarn stitch markers is they aren’t removable and they are easy to loose in your work. I often found myself knitting them in and having to cut them out and then make new ones. One day I used paperclips and they worked great! They were removable and served their purpose. I have stepped up the quality once again with these…

Logan Forrest McLaughlin
I have not posted in a while because I recently had my fourth child. Logan Forest McLaughlin was born on February 5, 2013. Also I was sick for the last part of my pregnancy so it has been hard to find a time to sit and create let alone write about what I am creating. In anticipation of Logan’s birth, however, I did have some time to try my hand at some design. Here is the birth announcement I designed (I still need to print it). Front. Back. I so enjoyed designing this piece and I hope to have it printed eventually. It seems my life is a list of…

Saving Upholstered Furniture
Ok so this is ANOTHER coffee shop post. The great thing about doing the decor for the shop on a tight budget is it is forcing me to be super creative. I will share what I find with you so ultimately you benefit. Don’t know if that actually makes sense but I am going to go with it. Please excuse any decrease in the understandability of my posts. Opening shifts at the shop start at 4:30am so I am sleep deprived and slightly overloaded. Ok onto todays post. I have been scouring craigslist for possible sofas, chairs, tables and other interesting furniture for the shop. I would love to drop…

Paint Chips
Sorry for my absence. I have had many things happening and not a lot of time to complete them all. The most exciting current happening in my life is I am opening a coffee shop! Woah. My parents already have one coffee shop location open in East County San Diego. Now we are opening a coffee house in another part of East County. How is this relevant to my design/knitting/photography blog? Well I am in charge of the decor in the new shop. This is a huge project and very exciting. I have been collecting paint chips and lighting ideas, whilst buying used and vintage furniture off of craigslist.com. Here…

Free Printable Card
I have been looking at Valentine’s cards when I am out at the store and I have been really disappointed in what is out there. I decided to make my own and figured others might benefit from it. {Download Now} You can print this card out (simply click on the image or link above), it has the tea stain look incorporated into the image. Simply cut it out along the tea stain edge, fold it, write in it and pop it in an envelope for someone special. Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. I have to say it isn’t my favorite holiday, mostly because it is a holiday of…

Drawing Inspiration
Since my Courage to Draw post a few months back I have been sketching consistently in my journal. It is amazing how sketching helps me write and vice a versa. The more I draw the more I write. To help me stay inspired I have printed out several images off of various free printable websites…the most notable being vintageprintable.com. There are lots of free images online that you can print and frame or you can use them as inspiration for drawing. I have been drawing a lot of butterflies lately. They are something I enjoy drawing and are relatively easy and diverse. Here are a couple of images that I…

DIY: Tulle Bow Headwrap
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! So this diy is a little bit crazy. I had been wanting to make a headwrap that was big and a little more out there. If I were getting married and having a bohemian hippy-ish wedding I might actually wear this for a more modern take on a veil. If I could find a way to make it not look like minnie mouse. Maybe this is just what you are looking for to accesorize your Disney themed party outfit. If you can’t get it to look right on yourself try it on a little girl…it looks amazing on my two year old! Take a length of tulle a…

DIY: Pinecone Ornament
I cannot believe Christmas is nine days away. This month is flying by and I cannot seem to keep up with the various work and personal holiday parties. It does not help that my family was ravaged by a winter cold. I always try to make an ornament that I can give away with my gifts or as an extra trimming to the way the gifts are packaged. This year I found some really beautiful pine cones close to my home and I spray painted them silver. Then I dabbed a bit of hot glue to the top and attached a bit of bakers twine for them to be hung by. I…

Hand Knit Brown Paper Tags
This year I am pushing myself a bit. I want to make as many things by hand as I can for the holidays. That of course means many of the gifts I will be giving are going to be knit. I always want some kind of unique piece in my wrapping and often a tag accentuates a gift perfectly…without being expensive or time consuming. I made these “hand knit” tags and thought I would share them. You will be surprised at how easy it is. Simply click on the image below to download the printable PDF file. Then simply follow the instructions on my Brown Paper Tag tutorial and you…
